What is Bhoodan and Sarvodaya Movement In India?

Little About Bhodan Movement In India
Bhoodqan movement was one of those movements which are started by visionaries with high ideals but their objectives remain unfulfilled and with the passage of time they fade out. This movement was started in 1951 in the Telegana region by Acharya Vinobha Bhave. There was a violent communist movement going on in the above area in late 1940’s  and early 1950’s  which resulted in a lot of bood shed. Vinobhaji satred the movement as an alternative  to violent communist movement. He tried to persuade the landloards to give up their surplus lands voluntarily and let it be distributed among the landless poor.  The method  he used for the purpose were persuasion and conversion rather than coerecion. The primary objective of the movement was that every man in need land  should  own  so me land. Later the movement  was extended to cover  sampatidan,  gramadan etc. and it was supported by many eminent people like Jaya Praksh Narain, Dada Dharmadhikari etc. The government too give full support to the movement. Vinobhave Ji toured the whole country and for some transformation in the country. But after the death of Vinobha Ji and Jaya Prakash Narain movement gradually faded out and did not leve a tangible impact on the unequal and inequitable land distribution in the country.
Sarvodaya
Related to Bhoodan movement was the Sarvodaya. It was started by Jaya Prakash Narain who was staunch Gandhi an and a follower of Vinobhaji. This movement aimed at the recognition of society by peaceful means. The organization of society will be based on self-governing and self-sufficient villages. It wanted the people instead of the cabinet for the central government to become the focus of political attention. It was in favour  of party less democracy because political parties are the cause of corruption, social divisions and abuse of power by the party leadership. The inspiration for Sarodaya came from Gandhi. For him it meant that the progress and welfare of individual and community are inseparable. An individual should seek his good or welfare through  the good of the community as whole. Gandhi laid down  the following g programmes to achieve aims of Sarvodaya . There are: Communal harmony, Abolition of class distinctions, Prohibition, promotion of cottage industries, village sanitation, economic equality, Orgnisation of labour , equality of status and  agriculture , organization of students, basic education, welfare of adivases, health and cleanness. Naturopathy, Service of leprosy, relief work etc.
